I got the chance to volunteer at Acquire the Fire this weekend. It was so amazing. The theme for this year is "let your voice be heard." It was basically about using the talents and gifts you have to make an impact on the world. It really made me think.

God showed me a LOT throughout the weekend. He is showing me that it is not only ok, but it is also godly to be a dreamer. He was the ultimate dreamer of all time! He dreamed this whole world up!

Yesterday, I got the chance to watch the sunset over the Mississippi river. It was beautiful, and I felt a sense of wonder that I haven't felt in a long time. Everyone was out on break... hanging around the levee. The air was crisp and cool. There was a breeze. It was perfect. Perfectly beautiful and wonderous.

God is SO GOOD!

a world of possiblities(I miss dance SO MUCH!)

I recently paid a visit to my girls at Jean Leigh Academy of Dance, and it just reminded me not to put God in a box.

I'm always trying to figure out what I'm called to do... I keep saying stuff like, "I'm called to missions," or "I'm called to children's ministry." I guess I just want to have all of the answers.

I've always known that ministry in a secular setting is just as much ministry as in a church setting, but when I was with the girls this weekend, it took on a new meaning to me. God really spoke to me in that arena, and showed me how He moves even there. He's opened my mind up to a new world of possible ways He might use me. Now I'm just waiting for Him to show me the way.

The girls rehearsing musical theater(for only like the second time, mind you). I've read it a million times before, but the opening verse just struck me this time: "We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because YOU ARE SLOW TO LEARN." Guh! I am? Yeah, I think I am!

I've really been drifting away from my first love, and getting caught up in the "idea" of ministry. Losing the passion, and the hope of possibilities. I've been stuck on trying to find out what my calling is, whenever I could just live for the moment and let God lead me. God just keeps telling me to go back to where I started, and learn to love Him all over again.

It's good! AMEN!

---

I hung out with Bethel Baptist this weekend. Here are a few pictures I thought you might enjoy:

The mattress game:

There were three teams and Charles drove us each and equal distance away from the church.

The goal:

Beat the other teams back to the church.

The catch:

You must keep the mattress above you head at all times. If you are caught breaking this rule you will have to put your mattress on the ground and the whole team will have to jump on it for five minutes as a penalty.

You can only do it in a small town w/o getting arrested.

Martha climbing the inflatables. No rhyme intended.

Today I want to talk about one of the funniest and most disturbing passages I've ever read in the Bible: Judges 3:15-25

At this point in the Bible the Israelites have not been very nice people, so God has given them over to the Eglon King of Moab. The Israelites cry out to God and God feels sorry for them and sends them help in the form of Elhud, a left-handed man(yes, it actually specifies that he was left-handed). Then the Bible says, "Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a foot and a half [e] long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing. 17 He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man.

At this point I'm imagining this rich obnoxious blue-blooded nasty sweaty meanie, but as if that isn't bad enough then it says, "21 Ehud reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king's belly. 22 Even the handle sank in after the blade, which came out his back. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it." Can we say gross?

Ok so to top it all off, God puts a line in the Bible that I think is in there solely for my intertainment:
3 Then Ehud went out to the porch [h] ; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.

24 After he had gone, the servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said, "He must be relieving himself in the inner room of the house." 25 They waited to the point of embarrassment, but when he did not open the doors of the room, they took a key and unlocked them.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? They're king was in the upper room dead and they thought he was CONSTIPATED!

The moral of the story: Don't mess with God's people or else you will be remembered like King Elgon, a fat and constipated man.

fabulosa

Here is a picture that we Gabi took of me after "mandatory fun time" on Tuesday night.

We are all so busy that we are sometimes required to just chill out and have fun. All of full-time and evenings went to Celebration Station instead of going to class on Tuesday. It was a BLAST. I about killed some people on the go-carts. We had a few wrecks, but I guess now they know I DON'T PLAY! That's just how I roll yo!

We were hyped up for a long time afterwards, so when we got home, we turned on the radio and danced. At some point I put on that hat, and Kelly Pitts decided she needed some props too. She escaped into her closet, and then came out looking like this:

Needless to say, I had to borrow her glasses. It was muy fabulosa.

Another recent and cool happening was our outreach marathon. We spent the whole day last Friday reaching out to our community (from 6:30am to 3:00am no lie). We cleaned houses, painted houses, gave out bottles of water, and even had a little time to buy some ice cream from the ice cream man. It was a blast.

The first thing I did on Friday was clean Ms. Violet's house in St. Francisville. Ms. Violet was born on a plantation and has live in St. Franny all of her life. The property she lives on now was actually part of the plantation she was born on. The owners of the plantation left some of the land to her family when they died!

She was so happy we were there that she gave us some free copies of her cook book! It is a cookbook that she wrote which has old plantation recipes in it. It is called "Aunt Shug's Favorite Plantation Recipes." She autographed it and everything! I can't wait to cook something out of it.

I think we were blessed all around. She was happy to have us, and we were happy to listen to all of her magnificent stories!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117895713747117586" style="DISPLAY: block; Yay! I'm so excited. I've never been to a Refuge event before, so I volunteered to help out.

Last week, I talked about how God is expanding my capacity for love, and I realized a new aspect of that last night. My roommate is house-sitting for someone, so I got to spend some alone time with God. During that time, I realized that God is truely cultivating a heart in me to serve others. I want to see other people's dreams come to fruition.

That's part of the reason I am so excited about Epic. Some of my close friends, friends who I'd go to the mat for, are leaders in Refuge. It's where their hearts are. They love it, and God has given them a vision for the future of the high school ministry. I seem them pour themselves into that vision on a daily basis. They have such a passion to reach the young people in our community.

I feel like their dreams have become my dreams(and I guess since God's dreams are their dreams, then my dreams are becoming God's dreams). I've been really busy, but I wouldn't miss this opportunity to serve peers' dream for the world.

According to this story, these two are best friends!

WOOOOWWWWWWWW

Man, it's been so long since I've posted a blog!

Elevate is so awesome! I love love LOVE my intern family. We've already been through so much together I can't imagine life without them.

God is doing such amazing stuff in my life right now. He's teaching me a lot about grace and mercy and discipline, but mostly He's just expanding my capacity for love. Sometimes it's overwhelming to be around so many people who I love and trust so much. He's blessed me with such amazing friends. Just thinking about it makes me tear up with happiness. I've never been more content and happy with my life as I am right now.

I'm getting to spend the weekend with my family. I've been very busy, so it's nice to have some down time. My brother was baptized today, so I took the day off to see him. I'm staying at my parent's house tonight. I had almost forgotten how much I miss them. Sometimes I get wrapped up in my day to day life and forget about my family back home. They only live 45 minutes away, but I never get to see them, so they might as well live further away. My mom is asleep on the couch next to me. It's nice to just be in her presence.

Soooooooo guess what!? Football season is here and we are starting a new session in KIA. Some of the Children's ministry staff got together and did a football themed rules video. Now, when most people hear that they think about their physical home where they lay their heads down to rest each night, but that's not the home I was longing for. I had this deep yearning for my spiritual home. I wanted to be rid of this world and it's troubles if only just for one moment. I was longing for my Savior, just to be in His presence and feel His peace.

It truely is a bittersweet reality: knowing that you're not meant for this place, that something better is waiting for you. Most of the time, it gives me hope, but everyonce in awhile it causes a desperate ache in the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Jesus that I don't have to stay here much longer! Can you imagine what it must have been like for Him to take on this human form? I know how much I long for my heavenly home, and it probably doesn't come anywhere close to how much He longed for it. And to think He actually CHOSE to leave His home, and come here for my sake!!! He is so awesome. He has overcome the world.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

pure awesomeness

check it out

imperfections

I'm at work right now, but very bored because Maggie and Amy are both out of the office. I'm listening to 92.7 on the radio. I like it here, and I'd definitely stay if I wasn't starting Elevate.

I took a few minutes a second ago to do a MLS search for dream homes in Key Largo. That was interesting. You wouldn't believe how ugly and gaudy some of them are! Beautiful property. Ugly houses.
__________

Last night, hope came to me in the form of a friend. I was going on and on about how horrible I had been that day and how I was thinking thoughts I shouldn't think and saying, "What is wrong with me? REALLY!? What is wrong with me? I shouldn't be doing those things."

She looked at me and said simply with compassion and sympathy, "You know that you're still allowed to be human right?"

I was dumbstruck. All this time I've been stressing out it's because I was trying to be perfect... and that somehow God must be mad at me because I'm not.

Even as I'm typing this tears come to my eyes when I think about how God accepts me just as I am. Total acceptance. It's the greatest love anyone will ever know. God loves you when you say the wrong things, when you spill your coffee, when your hair is falling out, and when you completely FAIL to love others. God loves you unconditionally and will always love you no matter what. It's just part of His character. It's part of who He is.

He's so amazing! So good and so holy! I owe Him my life.

rebel and penny

I don't know about that guy on the left, but Rebel and Penny are the bomb dizzle! She's so awesome and she's a very good retriever. After that we came back up to the house and played w/ the water hose for awhile. I got soaked, but I had just got done running, so it was all gravy.

There's nothing like a Louisiana summer!

Tonight I'm working in the nursery and then I get to play w/ one of the coolest babies ever, Sierra. Sorry for the long lapse in my posts. I'm here today to tell you all about Penny.

Penny is my very best buddy, Crystal's, dog. I'm dog sitting Penny while Crystal is in Denver for two weeks, and I absolutely love her... Maybe even more than I love Crystal.

Penny is very well-trained and obedient, AND ENTERGETIC. She LOVES the farm. She loves it outside, and she also likes to chase cats. She's very VERY friendly.

Last night when I got home, I brought Penny inside. She sniffed around and checked things out. She went into mom's room where she was sleeping to see what was up in there. Mostly, she just followed me around. Penny is a constant companion.

When I got ready for bed and flipped back the covers, Penny knew exactly what I was doing. She jumped on my bed and made herself completely comfortable. It took me awhile to get accustomed to her presence beside me, but once I did, I went right to sleep. She woke me up a few times throughout the night(must be what it's like to have a kid), but other than that, she was fine.

All this to say, PENNY IS AWESOME! I love her. I love caring for her, I love petting her, and I love watching her play. She's quite possibly one of the coolest dogs in the world(aside from Rebel), and I get two whole weeks to just love on her. What a blessing!

some things i saw today

BIG OLD TREE

SUNFLOWERS

ROOSTER

COW

emotional space

Proverbs 4:23 says "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." I think that this verse says a lot about keeping your personal space safe. Not just your physical comfort zone, but your emotional comfort zone as well. Everyone needs to have places in their hearts that only certain people have access to: Safe places, that only safe people can touch.

It doesn't mean that you shut everyone out. It just means that you only let those who are worthy in.

I'm realizing this, because I've recently had quite a few invasions of my emotional comfort zone(I've even done a bit of invading myself). Invasions that I allowed when I shouldn't have. People who don't have the right to be, have been getting "all up in my emotional space." Why? Because I let them.

It's kind of hard for me not to get mad at myself for my utter stupidity, but I guess it's all a learning process. I've learned to say "no" to people who I don't want in my comfort zone... and most importantly, I've learned to appreciate the few special people who have earned my trust and gained entrance into my heart.

time to let go

Ok, it seems like everyone who posts on here really has it all together... I know you'd all be the first to tell me that you don't, but still, I feel inadequate in my posting skills. I'm gonna give it a shot anyway... Here goes.

Lately, my biggest challenges in my walk with God have been in some way shape or form associated with letting go of my past. I've had to deal with deep emotional wounds that crusted over and became infected long ago, and I've also had to deal with more recent wounds that are still flowing crimson.

I've been holding a lot of resentment toward certain people in my family, but God has shown me that when I felt scared and alone as a child... When I couldn't yet recognize him, he was there. He was protecting me. He was fathering me. The people who hurt me weren't trying to hurt me. They were trying their best to love me. God used them as vessels of his love, but vessels are not perfect. I've let go and forgiven them for their mistatkes, and God has blessed those relationships beyond my wildest imagination.

Today, God really showed me one area that I just have to LET GO. It kinda has to do with trying to save someone who once hurt me. I was reading the watercooler this morning, and Meghan said something that really hit home with me. She said,"It's God's job to deal with the cup-bearers of your past." And she's right. There's nothing I can do to MAKE someone accept Jesus. What I can do in my time of waiting is be faithful to my God who loves me and stop looking to my past for answers. I've already learned first hand how much letting go of something can bless you. I trust that if God can give that much restoration in my family, he can restore this area of my life as well.

God is so faithful, and so good.
